In Italy’s wine growing regions, September is a special time, as that’s when the grapes are harvested.  Grape Harvest Festivals are plentiful, and, shockingly, much wine is consumed during the celebration.  While we’re not in Italia, we’ll do as the Italians do

Priory October (Al Fresco - Hopefully!) Wine Tasting
Thursday, October 15, 2015

Host:  Nick Biondi, Majestic Wines and Spirits

Theme:   Meet the Wines of Franklin Tate Estates  (Note that this Tasting features three red wines and one white)

Franklin Tate Winery is one of the pioneering winemakers of Australia.  Located on the West Coast of Australia, about 5 hours drive South of Perth, Franklin Tate’s vineyards in the Margaret Valley benefit from a temperate Indian Ocean climate and relatively dry soils.  Their wines, reflecting the experience of many years of winemaking, have won numerous awards, including twice winning the “Most Outstanding Red Wine” award at the Wine Magazine International Wine Challenge.  We met the third generation Tate family winemaker, Alex, in March and found some great conversation and great wines.  We’ll be sipping three Franklin Tate wines and one from Alexander Winery, a wine from Israel.

  • Wines to be Tasted:  Franklin Tate Estates Chardonnay (Margaret Valley 2013) Franklin Tate Estates Shiraz (Margaret Valley 2012); Franklin Tate Estates Cabernet/Merlot (Margaret Valley 2012); Alexander Winery Vineyard Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Upper Galilee, Israel 2012).
